Abstract: | Discusses the political factors creating refugee situations in Africa, using French Somaliland (French Territory of the Afars and the Issas) as a case study. Some of the political factors creating the tensions and population displacement in French Somaliland go back to the enmity dating from medieval times between the Somalis and the Ethiopians. Without disregarding the ancient historical factors the author discusses the political factors at work in 1967 in terms of nine specific points. This is followed by a review of the treatment of the Somali issue before the U.N. Notes. |
