Abstract: | The Mau-Mau movement is a complex social phenomenon. The significance of the movement becomes understandable only through an examination of changing cognitive processes geared to the whole time sequence of the movement. The author discerns four phases: Jan. '46- jJne '47; July '47- June '51; June '51 - August '53; Sept. '53 - end of '55. The conclusion is that actions within Mau-Mau were performed by a collective whose constitution and cohesion varied through the various phases of the movement. Notes, diagram. |
