Abstract:In the dry areas in Kenya, the increase in crop failures, famines, and epidemics leads to internal technological, social and economic strains and stresses for which there must be an adjustment if the communities are to survive. The aim of this study is to understand the patterns of adjustment, specifically to understand the selection of farming technology as an adaptation response to marginal farming conditions. The sections are: the drought problem - drought as a national problem - types of drought - theoretical frames of reference - the hypotheses - methodology - results: some measures of the problems - some formal solutions - summary of major observations. Notes, bibl., tables.
