Abstract:Foreword by N.M. SHAMUYARIRA. Of the six chapters, the first two discuss the implementation of the land apportionment policy in colonial days while chapter three examines the economic effects of land segregation on the peasantry. Chapters four and five are case studies. The last chapter examines the effects of landlessness on the rise of mass nationalism in Rhodesia. The conclusion sums up the findings in all chapters and argues that European fears were more imaginary than real because a more equitable distribution of land would have boosted the country's economic growth to afford every citizen a reasonable standard of living. Furthermore, a fair distribution of land would have removed one of the thorniest issues from Rhodesian politics and significantly reduced racial tension.
