Abstract: | In 1937, after a year of Italian occupation, the rebellion of Ethiopians had spread to great areas of central Ethiopia. Under these uncertain conditions, Italy decided to approach Haile Selassie and his son Asfaw Wassen in an attempt to discourage and disperse the resisters and make them more willing to accept Italian rule. This examination of the secret relations between Italy and Haile Selassie and his family raises the difficult problems of ascertaining the intentions the Ethiopians had with the negotiations. Notes. |
