Abstract: | Rhodesian troops executed two major operations inside Mozambican territory during 1977. Both were aimed primarily at the elemination of guerillas who had for some time been operating inside Rhodesia and at the destruction of their bases. These operations pose problems for international law. This article contains a reconstruction of the events from press reports (mainly from Rand Daily Mail, The Star and Die Transvaler), and a legal evaluation of the operations: The May operation - The November operation - Self-defence - Hot pursuit - Has a right of hot pursuit developed as customary international law? - General Assembly definition of aggression - Conclusion.
