Abstract: | The Bophuthatswana constitution resembles a marriage between a presidential and parliamentary form of government. From a traditional South African (constitutional) point of view, this system has a dual impact. On the one hand it retains the nexus of parliamentary government between South Africa and Bophuthatswana. On the other hand it introduces a new feature, viz. that of a presidential executive. Incorporating as it does a rigid constitution an a bill of rights, the Bophuthatswana constitution is setting a trend in significant constitutional developments in the southern African context.
