Abstract:South Africa is highly dependent on Western countries for technology, trade, finance, and military supplies while radical change in southern Africa will have far-reaching repercussions for the entire capitalist system. Changes in policy of Western capitalist countries consequently are not only of importance for the Pretoria government but also for the liberation movement (whichever organizational form it has taken). This analysis of West German policy options in southern Africa deals with the following questions: What role does the Federal Republic of Germany play in this respect? What are the possibilities that the policy of the Federal Republic of Germany towards the South African problem will change? In which direction will this change eventually go? Notes.
