Abstract: | Based on a sample of 312 young persons with a mean age of 19 in Maiduguri, this study looked at the incidence of self-reported use and abuse of drug; using as research instrument a self-administered questionnaire adopted from a similar study in Ibadan. The results show that there is a growing drug problem, particularly among male secondary school students in Maiduguri. But the variety of drugs abused is more limited than that reported for Ibadan; and the incidence is much lower than that reported for advanced industrial countries. However, the incidence of abuse of Indian hemp, appears comparable to the incidence of abuse of marihuana in the advanced industrial countries. Bibliogr. |
