Abstract: | Colonialism and its legacy are no longer sufficient to explain the general crisis in black Africa. A less simplistic analysis requires new tools to consider issues of identity, the political community and political accountability. A broad picture emerges, one in which accountability has failed and politics have been Africanized, in the sense that patronage and group dynamics play a vital role in most African States. These features must be reckoned with if past and current processes in Africa are to be understood. Bibliogr., sum. in English (p. 166), text in Spanish. |
