Abstract: | There are two adult education areas: 1. training of personal skills (literacy, vocational training, supplementary courses), which an adult might need for his personal career; 2. civic information (political education, leadership training), which an adult needs for better recognizing his place, rights and duties in society. The A.'s sketch a pictureof adult education trends and logic and criticize from the point of view of an agency being involved in adult education in Third World countries in policy-oriented and technical sector. Two summary charts concern 1. Adult education theories and trends, and 2. Techniques in adult education. The article is followed by: Selemani, Yusufu, 'I was made to work like a plough', a worker at Mshi, Tanzania, who writes about his thoughts and feelings when he became literate. Notes, ref.
