Abstract:The author, who is neither archeologist, historian or meteorologist, examines some of the evidence upon which, at times rather sweeping, statements have been founded, and records this evidence. He comes to the conclusion that there is little conclusive evidence of climatic conditions appreciably different from those of the present day, though very probably minor climatic fluctuations have occurred. The general climatic background - The palaeolithic period - The mesolithic - The neolithic - Egyptian dynastic records - The classical geographers, and meroitic times - The medieval Arab travelers - Modern European travellers - The South Sudan - Summary and conclusions. References; correllation - table.
