Abstract:Israel has had a low-key but effective technical-cooperation program since 1958; agreements today involve 30 African nations. The so-called Lachish Plan for Rural Development, which Israel evolved in 1955, has been adapted in a number of developing nations, most recently in Zambia. This Zambian development project lies in the Copperbelt and involves settlement based on family farms, organized into six cooperative villages. The problems and the ultimate success of the project are described in the article.
