Abstract:The share of Egypt in the foreign trade of the Sudan has declined from about 40% in 1920 to 7% in 1952 in the case of Sudan imports and from about 28% in 1920 to 7% in 1952 in the case of Sudan exports, despite the advantages of a common currency system and practically no customs :w duties payable between the two countries. The future may, however show a reversal of this overall trend as the development of Egypt's industry enables her to supply goods to the Sudan which at present are imported from elsewhere. At the same time, future developments of crops alternative to cotton in the Sudan gives promise of increased exports to Egypt. Tables.
