Abstract:Study on social miscegenation, drawn from statistical evidence. Before the 19th century interracial concubinage was common and viewed with tolerance and amusement. In the 19th centyrt, and more sharply in the 20th century, anti-miscegenation attitudes and more stringent legislation against interracial sexual relations indicate a more virulent phase of race relations. Several tables presenting data on interracial marriage and non-marital miscegenation illustrate the study. The analysis and the conclusions of the author give a view on the tend of race relations in South Africa. Bibliographical footnotes.
