Abstract:	In his general survey of Tswana culture - 'The Tswana' London, 1953 - the author has summarized the main features of the bogadi (bridewealth) system. That summary was based partly upon the statements of informants, partly upon the writings of other, and partly upon quantitative data collected by the author himself in several different chiefdoms ('tribes'). The legal and other rules governing payment of bogadi had already been described by him in Handbook of Tswana law and custom'; London, 1938/1955. In this paper the author discusses more fully the quantitative: - data, which, on closer analysis, reveal features that necessitate revision of some earlier statements. Notes, tables.
