| Abstract: | After discussing briefly the writer-intellectual's class situation (based on the fact that the latter is the most important determinant of ideology), the author looks in general terms, and in some detail at that ideology. Contents: 1. Socio-historical analysis (the focus on individuals - the stress on human nature and history as repetitive cycle - culture clash as central). 2. Political philosophy (attitude to the 'traditional' society - the portrayal of the masses - depiction of political leaders of independent Africa). 3. Ethnicity (negritude). The conclusion is that the writer-intellectuals are no threat to the status-quo, they tend to be its ideological support. Notes. P. 60 and 61 are missing. |
