Abstract:The author analyses the relationship of unemployment to politics, using survey data collected in 1966 alongside data collected in 1971 in Ibadan. Section I (Background) and section II (Unemployment and underdevelopment) contain basic considerations. Section III concentrates on how the urban resident unemployed perceive their predicament in political terms and how politically conscious they are. In section IV the survey data are discussed. Sections V observes the behaviour of the poor in the political arena. In section VI the author gives a concluding comment. Notes, French summary.
