Abstract:The Government announced a plan for settlement of African farmers in the White Highlands in July 1960. The World Bank contributes to this L. 14 million settlement plan. Thousands of African farmers will be moved into the Highlands during the next 5 years. Next year a settlement board will have been created, with representatives of the Government, European and African farmers which is to take over all the properties and assets of the European Settlement Board and will do all the buying of land. The board is expected to prefer holdings of about 5000 acres. Subdivision will be for peasant or yeoman farmer schemes. The Yeoman Farmer Settlement Scheme will be open to people of any race who have a reasonable knowledge of farming or are prepared to undergo training and who have at least £ 200 - capital.
