Abstract: | The article examines the influence of the Soviet Union and China in the new African states and the Communist support for the liberation movements. The talk of a threat of Communism in Africa is much exaggerated. The constant harping of South Africa on the dangers of Communism is because the Red Menace is an important theme of South Africa foreign policy, and perhaps essential to sustaining internal support and external tolerance of the system of apartheid. |
