Abstract: | The league as we know it, is the result of the opposing forces and trends of Arab unity on the one hand and the seperate interests and aspirations of the various Arab states on the other, as shaped and crystalized over the last four deca-des and modified and deflected by the interests and activities of the Western powers and, to a degree, by pan-Islamic ideas. The author re-examines these basic problems, both as background to the present crisis and as an attempt to summarize the decade of the League's existence. |
