Abstract:A question which arises as a result of the Angolan conflict and South African involvement therein, is the extent to which the parties adherred to international humanitarian law. What is of importance is whether the parties applied the Geneva Conventions of 1949 particularly Convention I for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces in the Field; Convection III Relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War; and Convention IV Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. This is discussed in this article. Notes; ref.
