Abstract: | In explaining the problems involved in expanding the size of the market in Africa, the economist has relied rather heavily on the two sector model. This paper examines the rationale as well as the usefulness of such an approach. Given the scope of this project, this paper can only be explorative rather than exhaustive and thus, the results must be considered as suggestive rather than conclusive. Sections: The rationale for the two-sector model - Dualistic models and the process of economic development - Conclusions and implications. Ref. |
