Abstract:Some agricultural innovations are often adopted by desperate farmers purely for immediate economic reasons. Long-term effects on their normal life-styles are not taken into consideration, especially in areas where extension workers are not well educated on the innovation. In other cases, attitude and aptitude become main determinants for innovation adoption. In the North West Province of Cameroon, despite the attitude and aptitude shown by most adopters of an innovation (swamp rice), an expected economic gain remained illusive and a fiasco. This situation modified the expected hierarchical diffusion model for the area. Map, ref., tab., French sum. p. 182.
