Abstract:Salt has been a valuable commodity in East Africa. Today it is the second most valuable mineral product of Tanzania and Tanzania's Second Five-Year Development Plan envisages a steady rise in the production and utilization of it as it becomes more easily available due to increased production and refining and better-organised distribution. The bulk of sal is produced in modern salt works at Uvinza, Ivuna and along the Coast.
