| Abstract: | Output of the gold mining industry will exceed 13,000,000 oz., a rate of production which has not been reached since 1.942. This favourable development is mainly attributable to the improved supply of African labour. The most spectacular progress has been made in the field of Uranium production: 4 new extraction plants commenced operations during 1954 and by the middle of the year 6 plants, serving 7 mines were producing uranium. A further 9 plants to serve 18 mines are now in course of erection or have been authorised. Profits from uranium production are now running at an annual rate in excess of £ 6 million, with less than 1/3 of the present uranium programme in operation. |
