Abstract:After a short introduction on three main characteristics of the Yoruba language, namely - 1) that it is a tone language, 2) that it abounds in onomatopoeic words, and 3) that it contains a number of expressions usually associated with certain ideas, and whose meanings are intensified by their being reduplicated on certain tone patterns the author examines a few poems.
