Abstract: | The object of this paper is to examine the economic aspects of land policies. The analysis has the, following parts: A. Demands on the agricultural sector from an expanding economy; B. Criteria to be fulfilled by the land tenure pattern if agriculture is not to inhibit general economic development; C. How various land tenure patterns fulfill the economic criteria. The author shows that healthy economic growth in other sectors depends on four main contributions from an expanding and changing agricultural production He selects seven criteria that a good land tenur re system should fulfill and examines a number of land tenure patterns, which are either widespread in East and Central Africa, or which may be considered in land policy questions. In this conclusions he comes to seven important lessons. |
