Abstract:	The purpose of this paper is to present estimates of the output of the Portuguese territories of Mozambique and Angola in 1950, and to draw attention to some of the indications which these estimates give of the scale and range of economic activity in the two provinces. Some use is also made of details of various aspects of the economies for years since 1950. Readily accessible information on the economic life of the provinces has been almost entirely confined to crude statistics for population, foreign trade, revenue, some aspects of production, and so on. These statistics, and others like them, conprise the raw material of the present paper.
