Abstract: | This paper deals with three major themes. The first section discusses the changes in the land tenure system in Bungoma (Kenya) as it affected women. The section highlights the significant impact registration and individualisation of land ownership, which began in 1954 with the swynnerton plan, had on women's position vis-à-vis men's in agricultural production. Section two analyses agricultural innovations and observes that the traditional farm implements remained in use throughout the period under study. In section three a detailed description of the work done by women in agricultural production is made. It shows that technological innovations did not alleviate the burden of women in agricultural production. - Notes, tab. |
