Abstract:Paper prepared by a study group in the I.M.F.'s African Department under the direction of U Tun Wai, with contributions by the economists Naguib M. Abu-zobaa, P.E. Berths, Adhemar Byl, Moncef Guen, P.J. van de Ven. The paper, describing the financial arrangements of the CFA franc countries among themselves and with France and the EEC, starts out with a description of the fundamental features of the CFA franc system, the monetary and budgetary developments and the wage and price situation in the area, and then describes in detail the foreign trade and marketing situation and the balance of payments position.
