| Abstract: | An apparent rise in puritanism has been abroad in English-speaking eastern Africa in the last year. The author considers the reasons for this phenomenon and its political implications. He sees four aspects of the relationship of miniskirts to political puritanism, e.g. the rebellion against the miniskirt could be viewed as a claim to African superiority over Western norms. |
