Abstract: | This article combines interview data from urban Bemba, Shona, and Ngoni women initiates with secondary source material and direct observation of revitalized rites in an indigenous church, the Apostles of John Maranke (Vapostori). It is exploratory in its efforts to compare customary rites and revitalized ritual forms.
