| Abstract: | The role of railroads in the European conquest and 'pacification' of African states during the late 19th and early 20th centuries has rarely been emphasized in African history. Sections: the politics of the 'Uganda Railway Bill', 1890-1896 - official support for the railway - Salisbury's watch on the progress of the railway, 1896-1900. Ref., summary. |
