Abstract:Deals with two small corpuses of tales that develop the biblical theme of Eve's children in order to exemplify traditional explanations of inequality. The tales have been collected among Hungarian peasants and among a number of closely-related Sudanese societies (Dinka, Shilluk and Nuer). The purpose of this comparison is to apprehend different ideological patterns in the elaboration of an identical narrative subject, which further research might eventually relate to broader issues such as traditional conceptions of social orders in Europe and Africa.
