| Abstract: | Nigeria, which leads the world in the production of palm oil, is beginning to take her place among the producers of mineral oil (petroleum). But her petroleum industry, though still in its infancy, having not yet passed the exploration stage, is of much interest to the geographer. It is the purpose of this short article to show how the expioration is contributing to the extension of the rather meagre geographical and geological knowledge of this country, and how the operations are already beginning to bring about a changing landscape in parts of Owerri and Rivers Provinces.
