Abstract:After years of searching, petroleum deposits of a quantity and quality meriting commercial exploitation have been revealed. It seems likely that production will be confined to the littoral, specifically to the vicinity of the port of Luanda. The Belgian oil company 'Petrofina is responsible for the exploitation. A refinery and petroleum port are to be constructed. The production of petroleum in Angola will be a great stimulus to the economic development (foreign trade, increased demand for labour, of which there is already a shortage, and consequently increased Portuguese immegration).
