Abstract: | Result of an investigation into the widespread unconventional spellings of Igbo names. The investigation, based on a study of 1827 personal Igbo names, traces the cause as a process on anglicization and then establishes the patterns of such an interference in the English-Igbo language contact situation. The paper concludes with postulations of the observed dominant pattern of Interference for a national language policy. Bibl., notes, tables. |
