| Abstract: | Many historical studies have been made about past Arab activities in sub-Saharan Africa, but no attention has been paid to Arab communities in Africa and their social, economic and political conditions in the present. This paper is a preliminary study of East Africa's Arab communities and of some of those in Central Africa. It discusses briefly the historical background of the Arab presence in East Africa, the Arabs under colonialism, and the Arab communities in different parts of East and Central Africa (Kenya, Zanzibar, Uganda, Zaïre, Rwanda and Burundi) after independence. Comments and general discussion on p. 14-160. Notes. |
