Abstract: | Abridgement of a discussion on 'Socialism, capitalism and the underdeveloped countries' held in Moscow by the editorial board of the Soviet Journal Mirovaya Ekonomika i Mezhdunarodnyye Otnosheniya. 17 economists, historians, journalists and economists took part. And underlying theme of the discussion was the trend of sentiment in the developing countries away from capitalism and towards 'the non-capitalist road of development' and self-styled socialism. 1. The state sector, industrialization and planning (the conflict over state enterprise - 'Mixed economy' idea fundamentally unsound - Problems of industrialization in Africa etc.). 2. Changes in class forces, and ideas on socialism (Good and bad elites - Evils of bureaucracy in Africa - Good and bad Bourgeoisie - Need to support petty bourgeois socialism - The situation in the UAR etc.). |
