Abstract: | Examination of the extent to which Guinean society and economy have achieved a national democracy by socialist means. Guinea's socio-political systems are described, as are various aspects of the principles of socialism in relation to the economy - macro-economic factors, land tenure and socialisation of agriculture, cooperatives, the circuits of commercialisation, marketing and trade, the public corporation in the industrial sector. money, finance, and planning. Has the socialisation process enabled the successful restructuring of the production and distribuction system in Guinean society to realise the goals of self-reliance? By comparing Guinean socialism with that of the Congo, Benin and Senegal, an attempt is also made to ascertain whether structural problems faced by Guinea are similar to those or other African countries operating within similar national socio-political systems.
