Abstract: | The future constitutional development of the Protectorate of Zanzibar is limited by the small size of its territory and of its population number. There are also financial difficulties. If the Zanzibar Protectorate is to continue to provide even the very modest educational and social services which are all that it can at present af ford, the discovery of new markets for cloves is an urgent matter. Zanzibar is close to the mainland of East Africa. Arab political leaders in the Protectorate are turning their eyes to the possibility of a federation linking Tanganyika, Kenya and Uganda. It seems that only as a unit in such a Federation the Protectorate of Zanzibar could achieve a measure of Sovereignty. Illustrated. |
