Abstract: | The environment in the Tribal Trust Lands differs radically from that in the commercial agricultural sector. Accordingly, it is pointless to consider the technical feasibility of increasing pastoral production in the Trust Lands without taking into account the relevant demographic, sociological, economic and ecological facts. After summarizing these facts, the paper deals with. Livestock in the tribal economy - Reclamation and intensification - Matching intensification to needs - Stock-watering and rotational grazing - Selective thinning of trees and shrubs - Rational use of goats and sheep - Legume-based pastures. The conclusion accentuates the need for rural reform in the Tribal Trust Lands. Ref. |
