Practically all the fish is caught in the vast Bangweulu Swamps east of the lake.proper. First by canoe and then by bus the fish is transported to the Copperbelt. The buses, all African owned play the decisive part in the Bangweulu fish trade. The inception of a regular bus service led to the development of Mwamfuli's Village as the centre of this trade, at the expense of Kapalala. The total value of the fish passing through Mwamfuli's Village in 1956 was more than £ 118.000. Photographies, graph. |
