Abstract: | The Toucouleur artisans studied in Dakar weave rather simple fabric. Having set themselves up on the less frequented sidewalks of the Medina, in a space of 15x3m, they use a loom that only makes geometric designs based on longitudinal or transversal bands of various widths and colors. However, the woven cloth observed was only of the longitudinal type, with the finished bands being 30 cm wide. This article examines the technique used in obtaining a band of cloth and recommends improvements to increase weaving speed. Fig. |
