Abstract: | Argues that the domestication of the Yam in Africa may be viewed as an essentially indigenous process based on wild African species. Only in its later stages was it influenced by external factors through cultural interactions - southwestern Asian Neolithic culture, the use of iron tools, and the introduction on non-African genetic material.
