Abstract:Treating the links between communication, education and culture, the author focuses on connections between communication and education in Africa. Taking off from a recapitulation of traditional educational communication models, he concludes that Africa currently faces a crisis in education and communication. To deal with it, he points out, the continent must adapt to the new communications technologies now available. His discussion covers: TheAfrican model of educational communication; Initiation in selected models of educational communication (the Seereer model; the Kikuyu model); Communal education and the mythology of masks; The crisis of education and social communication; Technological revolution and cultural prospects; Conclusion.
