Abstract: | This paper examines the history of the international oil companies in Nigeria on the 'basis of their behaviour (or that of their subsidiaries) in that and other major oil-producing countries. Aim is to determine - under assumption that there will be no radical changes in the pattern of behaviour of the foreign oil companies within the foreseeable future - from the facts that emerge, what the possible outcome of the relationship between the Nigerian Government and the foreign oil companies could be in the light of recent oil policies adopted by the former.
