Abstract:The U.S. decision to give a £ 13 million loan to the Ghana Government network almost coļncided with the appointment by Dr. Nkrumah of five other members (apart from him as Chairman) of the Volta River Authority. Dr. Nkrumah declared that besides loans totalling roughly £ 35m. (£ 17 m. from the World Bank; £ 13 m. from the United States, and £ 5 m. from the U.K. Government) the Ghana government wasproviding some £ 35 m. - fact which gave the lie to the critics who had been saying that 'we have frittered away our reserves'.
