Abstract:According to A. Symonovicz, the water management system is the functional and spatial system comprising natural water resources, infrastructure connected with the management and utilisation of these resources, as well as links between these elements. For the purpose of this study, this concept is expanded to include the functionnally related elements of social organisation of water supply and use, taking into consideration the following problems: organisation of farms and agricultural production, seasonality of production, choice of crops and calendar of field work. The operation of basin irrigation and of perennial irrigation is analysed, with focus on the selected technological, organisational and economic problems of water management. In the case of the basin irrigation system, which has been virtually abandoned, an attempt is made to restore its situational framework. Fig., notes, tab.
